I've been watching and admiring the Color Throwdown for weeks. I decided today to make some birthday cards based on this weeks colors. I began by using the WPlus9 "Whole Lotta" stamp set, and matching Distress Inks. ( Broken China, Shabby Shutters, and Squeezed Lemonade.)
I stamped out the balloon onto some water color card stock. Using a damp paint brush I moved the color around and added ink when necessary to get the desired look.
Using a Sakura Pigma Micron pen in size 01, I added messy balloon outlines and the strings.
Next, I trimmed down my water color piece and added fun foam on the back for added dimension. I added black and white striped washi tape to the very edge of a piece of white card stock, and mounted my water color piece on top.
I added my card front to some Papertrey Ink Simply Chartreuse card stock cut at 4.25 x 5.5 inches and scored for a side fold.
I stamped the "happy" sentiment onto some vellum with Versafine black ink. While it was still wet I heat embossed the sentiment with clear embossing powder. I stapled a strip of Papertrey Ink True Black card stock onto the vellum and adhered it all to my card front.
On the inside, I stamped the simple "Birthday Wishes" sentiment in the same Versafine black ink. I added another balloon stamped in the Broken China Distress Ink with the messy outlines and string.
This finishes up my first Color Throwdown creation. The inspiration for this card comes from Dawn Wholeslagle from WPlus9. She has an awesome youtube video ( HERE ) on how to make a similar card using the water color technique.
Lovely cards. Great photography too.
