Color Throwdown! #407

I've been watching and admiring the Color Throwdown for weeks. I decided today to make some birthday cards based on this weeks colors. I began by using the WPlus9 "Whole Lotta" stamp set, and matching Distress Inks. ( Broken China, Shabby Shutters, and Squeezed Lemonade.)

I stamped out the balloon onto some water color card stock. Using a damp paint brush I moved the color around and added ink when necessary to get the desired look.

Using a Sakura Pigma Micron pen in size 01, I added messy balloon outlines and the strings.

Next, I trimmed down my water color piece and added fun foam on the back for added dimension. I added black and white striped washi tape to the very edge of a piece of white card stock, and mounted my water color piece on top.

I added my card front to some Papertrey Ink Simply Chartreuse card stock cut at 4.25 x 5.5 inches and scored for a side fold.

I stamped the "happy" sentiment onto some vellum with Versafine black ink. While it was still wet I heat embossed the sentiment with clear embossing powder. I stapled a strip of Papertrey Ink True Black card stock onto the vellum and adhered it all to my card front.

On the inside, I stamped the simple "Birthday Wishes" sentiment in the same Versafine black ink.  I added another balloon stamped in the Broken China Distress Ink with the messy outlines and string.

This finishes up my first Color Throwdown creation. The inspiration for this card comes from Dawn Wholeslagle from WPlus9. She has an awesome youtube video ( HERE ) on how to make a similar card using the water color technique.

Using My Practice Images!

Recently, my family went on a super long road trip from Washington state to southern California. I knew I would be very board riding in the car for that long, so I took along some supplies. I practiced both my copic and water coloring. Now that I'm home I have all these colored images ready to make some cards!

First up, I wanted to use the super cute Playful Pups from  Mama Elephant  I used the coordinating dies and cut out my pup, then tried to decide how to organize my card layout. The Soft Stone card base, the stars out of the Tinsel and Tags paper pad, and the  Smokey Shadow card stock used for my star,  are all from Papertrey Ink. The stitched star die is from Gina Marie Designs

I love this sentiment! It is from the Hand Lettered Encouragement stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. This set has some awesome sentiments, whether you need a "keep up the good work" or "feel better" type card. The one I chose didn't quite fit onto my die cut, so I got a little creative. I traced the star lightly onto my card base and then stamped the sentiment using my MISTI stamping tool  with Papertrey Ink Smokey Shadow ink. It perfectly matches their Smokey Shadow card stock. I attached my star with reposition-able adhesive. I stuck the whole thing in the MISTI again, carefully lining up the sentiment and stamped it in Versamark sticky ink. I removed and embossed the star in Ranger Liquid Platinum embossing powder and the card base with clear embossing powder. I erased my pencil lines and then popped the star up off the card base using foam adhesive tape and trimmed the part sticking out on the side.

I attached my star patterned paper and then popped up and attached my pup using foam tape. The last little detail was adding a tiny bit of Glossy Accents to his wet little nose. Now, I need to see what I can do next with my huge pile of colored images!
Don't forget to take a few supplies with you on the run. You can get a lot done in the pick up line at school, waiting for appointments, or hours of riding in the car! :)

Have an awesome end to your week!

Hugs Enclosed!

Hi there everyone! Today's cards feature the super cute Hugs Stamp and Die Set from
 Concord & 9th!

For my first card I cut some watercolor card stock using the Hugs die that coordinates with the stamp set. I used Greg and Angie's (the Concord & 9th crew) Video Tutorial on exactly how to use this awesome set of dies. Next, I stamped the sentiment in black Versafine ink, covered that with clear embossing powder and heat set. I then stamped all the citrus images in Versamark ink, coated with white embossing powder and heat set those as well. After embossing, I taped off the areas of the card that I didn't want covered with Distress Inks. Using my ink blending tools, I blended my yummy citrus colors of Spun Sugar, Squeezed Lemonade, and Twisted Citron.

The inside of the card is stamped as well with one of the super cute sentiments. I used the little citrus slice image and the "rock and roll" method to blend the Squeezed Lemonade and Twisted Citron inks together and added just a little extra interest to the inside!

While I had all my supplies out I made this card using the Hugs die and the Happy Hues card and envelope pack. I've been wanting to use these awesome little watercolored cards, but didn't quite know what I wanted to do with them, until today!

Using the measurements in the Video Tutorial I scored and folded the card. Next, I cut another Hugs card out of some extra watercolor card stock. I inserted the Hugs piece inside the watercolored piece and played with them, and trimmed a little until I got the perfect fit!

When I had it just right, I adhered the Hugs insert into the watercolor piece. Lastly, I had to add a little sparkle. I placed some clear drops by Pretty Pink Posh onto the card front using bling glue dots. AND....nothing is complete without a little touch of clear Wink of Stella brush pen. I applied the Wink of Stella just to the Hugs peeking out from the card.

This card was super quick and easy. With the help of the already beautiful Happy Hues card set and the innovative Hugs die, this card is simple, but has a big impact!

I hope you enjoyed my cards today! As you can see I loved getting to play with the Hugs stamp and die set from Concord & 9th.

Until the next card...Have a Blessed Day!

Happy 1st Birthday Concord & 9th

Hi there everyone!

Welcome to my very first blog post.....so go easy on me:) I have been paper crafting in one form or another for about 15 years. I was nervous to try stamping a few years ago, but once I got started I couldn't quit.

Anyway....for the card today I stamped the popsicles using Concord & 9th's "Sweet & Cool Stamp Set". This set has several cute popsicles, as well as many great sentiments! After stamping I colored the images with Copic markers, then added a little shimmer with clear Wink of Stella. I popped up my card front with some fun foam and added it onto a thin background of green and white polka dots from SN@P! Color Vibe II 6x6 paper collection. I added my sentiment last on this one, because my original idea didn't work out....don't ya hate that! I pulled out my handy dandy MISTI stamping tool and stamped my sentiment onto my card front with no problems. Lastly, I added a few sequins from a kit I received some time ago.

Don't you love those cute little popsicles? This set also comes with a matching die set. Go by and give Concord & 9th some Birthday love! Today is also their release day. You may just find something you can't live without. :)

Until next time!
